Maritza Ojeda by Ashtyn O'Neill
Saugatuck has welcomed many new students this school year. Coming to a new school can be very difficult for a lot of students, which is why this week in the Orange Crush we will be introducing these new students to those who may not know them yet.
Maritza is a sixth grader new to Saugatuck Schools this year. She is currently eleven years old and has a cat named Rosy and a dog named Tank. She has four sisters who she enjoys spending time with often.
Prior to coming to Saugatuck, she attended Wyoming Public Schools. During our interview, Maritza said that even though the two schools are pretty different, she prefers Saugatuck over her old school. Maritza stated that the teachers, staff, and students are very kind. She has, therefore, felt very welcomed here.
When asked who her favorite teacher was, she was a little reluctant to answer at first. She says likes all her teachers equally, but eventually she did admit that her favorite teacher and class is Mrs. Prutch’s English class. Mrs. Prutch is very kind to everyone, and the class is fun for Maritza. Her favorite part of the day is recess. She enjoys going outside and playing with her friends. Maritza is a part of the sixth grade band and plays clarinet. She intends to continue with the band throughout the rest of her time here at Saugatuck. Maritza looks up to the middle school and high school bands, she is very excited to be able to play like them when she is older. Maritza is not very interested in sports; however, she is very interested in art and enjoys drawing or coloring. She’s excited to participate in the art programs we have here at Saugatuck and sees herself possibly becoming an artist in the future.
Overall, Maritza seems to enjoy being at Saugatuck Public Schools and is very excited to continue going to school here. If you see her in the hall, make sure to welcome her and say hi!
