Outer Banks: Season 3 by Mari Vande Poel
On Thursday, February 23, the third season of Outer Banks came out. This show consists of a small friend group in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
In summary of season one, the characters live in the part of the island called the cut, and they call themselves pogues. John B. Routledge is the main character, alongside his friends JJ, Kiara, and Pope. John B is considered an orphan by law. His dad is missing at sea and his mother left when he was little. He is supposed to be staying with his uncle T, but he’s never actually there. He is being forced to be put into the foster care system. But a hurricane hit the Outer Banks the same day that the people from the foster care were supposed to come from the mainland. This hurricane generated quantities of surprises for John B and his friend.
In this season, the main plot point was that John B Routledges’ dad went missing at sea 9 months prior to the first episode. He had been on the hunt for a famous missing ship, the Royal Merchant. Supposedly there had been a mass of gold left somewhere on the island. John B and his friends find out more and start to look for this. The hunt for gold creates many problems for the ones searching for it. Death seems to be one of the most evident.
In season 2, John B tries to dodge capture as he gets closer to the gold. Back home, his friends face life without him. With time running out, John B and Sarah strike an uneasy bargain, while Kie, Pope, and JJ search for evidence that could incriminate Ward and Rafe.
Season 3 starts with JJ, John B, Sarah, Cleo, and Pope on a remote island they labeled as “Poguelandia.” They had days without food and finally saw contact with the outside world. A small plane flew over and they ran and shouted to get its attention. He finally came down and the group got on board. They soon realized that this was rigged and assumed that Sarah’s father was behind this. They took over the flight and crash landed on the beach. They ran from the plane to find a group of men trying to find them and take them. They all hid but Kiara tried to save the pilot from drowning. Instead she was captured and brought to a large mansion. She soon found out that there was a different treasure that they would look for.
Sophomore Maeve Wrenn says, “It definitely got a little repetitive after season two, but I still enjoyed it. The show in general is good at displaying different aspects of their lives. It is a good mix between adventure and mystery, while still making it fun. I also love the locations like the beaches and differences between the sides of the island. Overall, it was pretty good”
