End of the Trimester by Mallory Hass
This week, February 26 to the 1st of March, is the second to last week of the second trimester at Saugatuck High School. Next week is exam week, where students will take tests in most of their classes that will count for 20% of their overall grade in that class for the entire trimester.
After the trimester, the students will get to start fresh, with new grades, classes, and teachers. Some classes, however, will remain the same for students. AP classes, for example, are typically three-trimester-long classes, though some are two. Their grade will still change, however, their teachers, classmates, and the hour that they have that class will remain the same.
There are a few classes/programs offered at Saugatuck that run on semesters, not trimesters. Some of these include programs through the Careerline Tech Center, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and other independent classes.
The end of the trimester is typically a stressful time for students, starting spring sports, finalizing grades for the past 3 months, and more. Here is what they have to say about their feelings around this transition of the school year:
Sophia De Graaf, a senior at Saugatuck, says the following about the end of the trimester coming up: “I’m glad that it’s almost over. It means that most of my senior year is done.”
Freshman Nova De Graaf says, “I am very anxious for exams, but also very excited because it just lets me know that I have to go through this one more time before it’s summer.” She says that the end of the trimester is practically a checkpoint for the upcoming summer break.
Niki McNeil, a junior, says that she feels, “...so excited. I’m really excited for the next trimester because I am taking some more fun classes. I am ready for spring sports to start, and that is an amazing segway into summer.”
As you can see, the students at Saugatuck High School have mixed feelings about this second trimester coming to an end. Nonetheless, it is coming up fast, and we hope to see everybody do well on their exams!
