Opinions on the Construction by Benjamin Maxwell
Over the past two years, Saugatuck Middle and High School has been under construction due to renovations. The areas of the school that have been under construction will be available for use once spring break ends. After spending the majority of the 2022 and 2023 school years in a school under construction, I interviewed a couple students to hear their overall opinions.
Ashton Lamb claims that he likes the current progress. Some changes he hopes are made in the future are bigger classrooms and better furniture. He likes some of the new desks, for example, the standing desks. On the other hand, the tall stools seen in Ms. Grinziner’s classroom aren't widely liked by many students. Many believe that they can get uncomfortable after a period of time.
Walt Bos said he thinks the construction is taking a long time and he hopes the weight room will be bigger once finished. Lily Hass states she does not like the smell, due to an allergy. Keagan Vandine agrees and feels it is taking a while, but will be worth it.
One thing it seems many students can agree on is they are excited for the construction to be finished; however, the time during the construction can be challenging. Many don’t like the smaller hallways and how some classes are in different places, for example, some classes now in the cafeteria. A portion of the renovations will soon be finished, which is great. The temporary walls are expected to come down, which should make many students happy.
Overall, the renovations seem to be going well. Some classrooms will be moved to the new area of the school, such as Ms. Galloway’s and Mr. Green's classrooms. When looking at the middle school and the new band room, you can get a decent idea on what the rest of the school will look like once completed. The school should be completed by 2025, so hopefully the construction will end soon.
