What Did Saugatuck Students Do Over the Nice Weekend? by Haley Rivera
This previous weekend there was some incredible fall weather. This meant that many Saugatuck students spent their time doing fall activities and getting outside like pumpkin carving and spending time at a haunted corn maze.
Daniela Nkurunziza went to New Salem Corn Maze, which seems to be a popular spot for students this fall. She went with her host sister, Sabrie Sneller, as well as Alyssa Ries, Norm Bos, and Noah Lankheet-Rathbun. While she was there she and the rest of her group went through the corn maze and the woods, “It wasn’t as scary as I thought, but it was still scary. Overall, I would say it was a lot of fun, but it was fairly expensive.”
Ellen Martinsson, an exchange student from Sweden, carved pumpkins with Maggie, her host sister, an exchange student from Italy named Chiara, and Anna, the French exchange student. On Friday night, Ellen went with the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity volleyball teams to go watch the Hope vs Calvin rivalry volleyball game that was being hosted at the Devos FieldHouse. Lastly, on Saturday morning Ellen went with her host family to an orchard located in Grand Rapids where they picked up some apple cider and donuts to get in the fall spirit.
Mackenzie Sanders had both travel soccer and a travel basketball games. She played her basketball game at the Courthouse in Byron Center and she plays for one of the USA soccer teams.
Andre Kupres-Rodriquez spent his weekend painting pumpkins with his sisters as well as their friends. Instead of carving pumpkins like most families traditionally do, his family put a twist on this and painted them instead. He painted a pumpkin that had Zero from the Nightmare Before Christmas on it.
Grace Dombrowski carved pumpkins with Elsa Dean, Trinity Stygstra, and Natalie Tuckerman. They also played Quiplash while they were all able to get together. They enjoyed some snacks while they spent their time together.
Lastly, sophomore Charlotte Gardner also spent some time at New Salem. She went with Carter Miller, Cass Stanberry, Mazie Robison, Ava Tringali, Noah Morgan, John Isacson, Annie Molenhouse, Mason Leslie, Sage Larsen, Aidan Swingle, and Calvin Miller. She got to spend time with her close friend from Indiana as well. They hung out with family and spent time catching up with one another.
