Iris Kuipers by Isabella Smith
Iris is a senior at Saugatuck High School who will be graduating in May of this year. She spreads her kindness throughout the entire school and to everyone in her presence. She makes it a priority to succed in school and all her classes, but she also knows how to have fun throughout her senior year of high school.
She’s not completely sure about her plans for the future, but she thinks she wants to attend a community college to study interior design. Eventually, she would like to go to Kendal College or Michigan State. Iris states, “It’s kind of pricey, so I’m just going to go to community college first.” She has plenty of options on her mind and is keeping an open selection in colleges.
Her thoughts and feelings about senior year varied. During her first and second trimester she was definitely ready for it to be over, but now that it is the third trimester, meaning her high school days are almost over, she feels more bitter-sweet. She states: “I feel like our grade has also gotten a lot closer since being seniors.” She explains that being in senior year, she has talked to more people in her grade than she did before. She says that when you are a senior, you pretty much become friends with everybody, especially through different school activities. Another thing she mentions is: “I’m also excited to move onto bigger things and not have to worry about homework and all the extracurriculars that come with school.”
A piece of advice for underclassmen that she thinks is important is, “It’s never as difficult as you think it is. Stuff that I stressed out about throughout school, I ended up persevering through and getting through it anyways.” She thinks it is important for underclassmen to do their best and to know that it’s not the end of the world if you get a bad grade or don’t do as good as you had hoped.
