Major Upcoming Lego Sets by Lance Oczepek
Lego has always made cool sets for people to play with and to display, but recently Lego has been making some very big and innovative sets. Some recent sets include the Eiffel Tower which has 10,001 pieces, and the Lego Star Wars UCS Venator, which was recently released with 5,374 pieces. It seems that as the Lego company grows and ages they have been coming out with bigger sets. What are going to be the next innovative and large Lego sets to release?
On June first this year set number 2106, the Notre Dame Cathedral will be released. The set contains 4383 pieces and is based off of the Notre Dame Cathedral located in Paris, France. Not much is known about this set yet other than the piece count, which leads people to believe that it will be a very large set.
Another set coming out this year is set number 76429: the Lego Harry Potter Sorting hat. This set contains 561 pieces and is based on the sorting hat from the Harry Potter Franchise. This set will be released on March 1st, retailing for $99.99. The Lego Harry Potter Sorting Hat is not a large set, but it is what the set can do that makes it an important and major Lego set. For the first time ever, lego is putting a small speaker that runs on batteries into the set. This speaker will be triggered to say one of the four Houses (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff) when the set is placed on someone's head just like in the Harry Potter universe. It will be interesting to see how well this new piece does in the sorting hat because if it succeeds, then there could be more Lego sets that have speakers with cool sounds playing when you interact with them. For example, a spaceship could make a rocket sound or a racecar could have its engine rev.
The final set that will be looked at is the UCS TIE Interceptor. The UCS TIE Interceptor is from the Star Wars series of Lego sets and is based off of a spaceship that the Empire used in Star Wars. UCS stands for ultimate collectors series, a category of the Lego Star Wars series that is more for people who want to display their builds. The Last UCS TIE Interceptor came out in the year 2000 so it's been a long time since one has come out. This set will have 1931 pieces and be $239.99.
