Saugatuck Senior Small Business by Madeline Villalobos
Being a high school student and having a job is tough to keep up with for some students, but being a high school student starting your own small business at age 15 and still keeping up with everything senior year in high school? That’s incredible!
Treats By Vick, is Victoria Villalobos’s small business. Vicky makes chocolate-covered treats. For example, chocolate-covered strawberries, pretzels, Rice Krispies, cake pops, and much more. Vicky has been doing this since she was 15. She didn't think of making a small business too soon, it was something she saw on her social media and wanted to try.
At first she started for fun then it just became something that helped her get things off her mind, then it turned into something she got good at. When people saw her work they liked it, so her orders started coming in. A couple of months and orders later she thought of making it something official. Something she helps do for any event the customer had but in their own way, their own different colored chocolate including their own preferred decorations.
These last 2 years Vicky’s favorite part of her experience has had to be starting the overall journey of her small business. Having her customers see her work and having them leave satisfied and very happy with their order always makes her feel happy and lets her know she did a great job.
The toughest part of her business is the decorations; for instance, the detailing and the little faces. Vicky didn't really set a goal, she just wanted to do something to get stuff off her mind and something good for people, especially because there aren't many local places that do what she does. She also wanted to earn some money. Vicky has been thinking and she would like to open up her own place for her business, but meanwhile, she's going to make it a side job after graduating High School and throughout her college years because she needs a full-time job to save up for college and officially accomplish getting a place.
