Olivia Holmes by Lily Locker
SHS seniors will graduate in just a few short weeks! The class of 2023 will have their last day at SHS on May 18, 2023, and graduation will take place two days later. Seniors are spending their last few weeks of high school preparing for the future while also creating some final memories. One of these Seniors is Olivia Holmes.
Liv Holmes is a member of the Varsity Bowling Team, as well as a Jazz Band member and Drum Major for the High School Marching Band. They are president of the GSA and the NHS, a drama club member, and choir member. Next year, they are attending Kalamazoo College to study history and music education. Liv is planning on becoming a high school history teacher, but they're hoping to also be certified in teaching music as well. Liv is hoping to get a doctorate in history so they can potentially become a history professor.
Senior year can be an exciting time as students look ahead and plan their futures. When asked about their thoughts and feelings about Senior year, Liv had this to say:
"I have many, many thoughts about my senior year. As I'm approaching my last couple months, I've realized how fast it's gone by, which does make me sad, but I cannot wait to graduate and go to college. It's cool to see all my work from the past few years come together. It's so weird to be in this spot, as I've watched so many classes be here and it honestly didn't feel real. The senioritis is very much real, though, and it's so hard to keep up on homework."
High school is a time where people share a lot of really valuable memories. When asked about their favorite memories from high school, Liv said:
"One of my favorite memories from high school is marching band. There's honestly nothing like the homecoming games, and saluting to a crowd full of alumni and an amazing student section after we put on a great halftime show, or strutting out through rows of my band-mates with a giant mace and going into that backbend on the S. It's exhilarating. This year's game really felt like a movie to be honest, and it was so cool!"
Upon reflecting on these memories, Liv had this advice for underclassmen:
"It sounds like a huge cliche, but I would tell underclassmen to take as many pictures as possible, because you're going to get to your senior year and not remember half of the fun (and sometimes stupid) things you do when you're a freshman. It's also so fun to just look back on three years later and realize how much you've grown as an individual, or to look at the trends that happened when you were a freshman."
Congratulations to Liv Holmes for their acceptance into Kalamazoo College! We can't wait to see the great things that they accomplish after graduation.
