Beginning of Third Trimester by Maggie Loomis
This week marks the first week of the last trimester for the 2022-2023 school year. Saugatuck High School is closing out in the 2022-2023 school year. This trimester change includes new schedules, classes, and transitions to the beginning of spring sports. Excitement is present in the school air this week. The third trimester marks the school year coming to an end as well as marking the beginning of spring.
The big change with the new trimester is schedule changes. Many students receive all new classes or experienced classes being switched around. This means that students will get to interact and converse with new classmates. This change in peers is a positive change for everybody. Many students get moved into classes with their friends, but although some students are not as lucky and get placed into classes with people they are unfamiliar with, students should take this as an opportunity to create new friends.
The biggest impact of a new trimester is the school year coming to an end. Many students express excitement for the upcoming summer. It’s that time of year once again: students are preparing for summer. Preparing for summer could mean buying new clothes, or students could be applying for summer jobs. When interviewing freshman Julia Lowery, she expresses her excitement for summer as well as a change in classes: “I’m really excited for my new classes. I like the change of pace. It’s crazy how it’s already the third trimester, but at the same time I’m really excited for it to be summer time.”
The new change in schedules is good for everybody; the schedule changes help the year move by faster. The schedule changes may include a new fun elective or a further segment of a class you have previously taken. Majority of the student body enjoys their electives. Electives are fun, light-work classes that students get to choose. Saugatuck offers a variety of electives ranging in interests, so there truly is a class for every student's interests. These classes range from art, woodworking, small engines tech, Spanish, journalism, robotics, and many more. Electives are well liked classes as it lightens up the schedule and helps the day move along at a faster pace.
So whether students are simply excited for a new schedule, enjoy their new electives, are making new friends, or are excited for summer, this new trimester is a fresh start for everyone.
