How Some Saugatuck's Seniors Felt After Voting For The First Time! by Xander VerHelst
Adele Nieuwsma said that for her first time voting she was not very nervous. She felt very nonchalant; she said once she actually sat down with her ballot that she got a bit nervous. She said, “I was a little nervous that I would read the questions wrong and not understand what it was asking.” She said that there were a few questions that she was not very sure of what they meant, but overall, she felt good knowing that her actions are going to play in something bigger and that she can finally express what she believes in.
Liv Holmes said that it was very weird, and not what they expected. They admitted that they didn’t honestly know how to vote; they knew what they wanted to vote for, but was not sure on how to fill out the ballot and had to read over it twice. They said that they were super scared of voting, but are so glad that they did!
Lukas Schoonmaker said that he was incredibly nervous and very indecisive; he said he felt very indecisive because of pressure from his family. He said that he does not fully agree with them and their beliefs. He was asked the next day on how it went and he said that he voted for what he believes in..
Jefferson McCluskey said that he was not nervous in the slightest and found the whole thing quite boring, but that he was glad that he voted.
I’m Xander VerHelst. As a new voter this year and a Senior at Saugatuck, I thought it would be appropriate to include myself. I was very nervous to vote, but so excited to have my voice finally heard. My single vote can change everything, and I'm very glad that I voted. It was a very big step towards adulting for me.
