JV Volleyball All Wrapped Up by Niki McNeil
The JV volleyball season is officially over! The team had their very last game on Thursday, October 27. They played in a tri at Covenant Christian, facing off against both South Haven, and Covenant Christian.
After watching the first game of the tri, which was between South Haven and Covenant Christian, the girls knew that they would have to put their all into the next two games against these skilled teams. They played off against South Haven first. They ended up losing in two, very close sets, but went out onto the court and gave it their all. The first set was especially action packed, with a resulting score of 23 to 25. The second set wasn’t quite as close, a finishing score of 21 to 25, but still, Saugatuck gave it their all.
The second game that the team played was against Covenant Christian. The girls knew that this would be their last match of the season, and came out swinging. They won the very first set of the match with a score of 25 to 20. Unfortunately, they started to lose their momentum in the second set, losing 21 to 25. In their very last set of the season, the girls tried their best to keep up with the intense skills of the Covenant Christian players, but it wasn’t enough to beat them. They lost the set 6 to 15.
When asked about how the season ended, Freshman Maggie Loomis said this: “Although I am disappointed that we didn’t win these games, I still think that we did a really good job. We put up our best fight and were so close in the sets against Covenant.” She continued on to talk about the importance of her team throughout the season, stating, “I had so much fun this year. Playing with these girls has been a truly amazing experience, and I can’t wait to come back and play with them again next year.”
All in all, the team agrees that it was a very fun season, and they were all so excited about the improvements made as individuals and the connections built as a team.
